Performance reviews are broken, and we’re frustrated by that. Not because of the process itself, but because of the content. Reviews built on memories don’t drive growth. What people need is real feedback, in real conversations, when it matters.
Even top performers walk away frustrated. Every high performer we’ve talked to feels it, every manager feels it, and HR knows it’s true. But fixing the review process won’t solve it. It’s not a machine problem. It’s a human one. The conversations that never happen. The ones that go poorly. Or the great ones that should be scaled.
Instead of solving that human need, workplaces end up with managers chasing updates, employees turning to AI tools for help, and HR relying on lagging data. Meanwhile the world keeps changing faster. We don’t like that. So we set out to change it. We left our careers behind: 15 years building as a CTO, 20 years in tech companies, from startups to Google, and yes, even Stanford. But our real edge isn’t our résumés. It’s our passion and belief that in an age of AI and automation, what matters most is still being more human. More time to perform learn, and grow as teams and as humans.
